The Jaguar I-Pace

Compact SUVs and eco-friendly cars are undoubtedly becoming more popular on UK roads and it seems Jaguar has taken notice combining the two to create the I-Pace.

The British manufacturer has entered the world of the electric car with its first all-electric I-Pace SUV. It beats its rivals to the market being the first premium European SUV to create a fully electric model to compete with Tesla.

The I-Pace already has its first job; it has been chosen as the car for the new taxi service which will transport passengers to Heathrow Airport. Jaguar Land Rover UK’s managing director, Jeremy Hicks, said, "What we have created in the Jaguar I-Pace is utterly revolutionary; a desirable, luxurious and state-of-the-art electric vehicle that’s practical for genuine everyday use, including the tough life of an airport luxury chauffeur car.”

For an all-electric performance SUV, Jaguar has created a sleeker and more modern version of the F-Pace, but with a completely eco-friendly engine. Let’s take a look at when this new model is released, how much it will cost and how it will perform.

Jaguar has released its first all-electric SUV to join its fleet of elite cars. The I-Pace is released in Summer 2018.

When is the Jaguar I-Pace release date?

The new model to the Jaguar fleet has been on sale since April 2018 and will be gracing our roads in June, perfect for those looking for a new car this summer. It first appeared as a concept back in 2016 at the Los Angeles Motor Show but was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2018, riling up plenty of enthusiasm and excitement from Jaguar fanatics.

The Jaguar I-Pace comes with a premium price as well as a premium performance. Sell your car and upgrade to the new addition to the electric car market.

What is the Jaguar I-Pace price?

The new electric Jaguar has been priced competitively, starting from £63,495. This may seem like a hefty price, but it is a Jag after all. In comparison, it is also cheaper than the entry-level Tesla Model X by at least £7,000. However, being an electric car, the running costs shouldn’t be as premium as its sale price and as a result of the low emissions it produces, the I-Pace is free in road tax.

The Jaguar I-Pace Specifications

The I-Pace performance

The I-Pace is not just an electric SUV but it is also a sports car. The batteries sit on the front and rear axles under the floor of the car to even out the weight and make the driving experience more fun compared to most electric cars. Not only does it handle well, it is silent. Even under hard acceleration, the noise emitted is minimal.

How long does it take to charge the I-Pace?

The range of the I-Pace goes up to 298 miles and can charge up to 80% on a 50kW public charger in 1 hour and 25 minutes, while 30 minutes charge will give an 80-mile range. At home, a 7kW wall box will charge the battery from 0-80% in 10 hours.

How fast can the I-Pace drive?

The I-Pace can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 124mph thanks to its 90-kWh lithium-ion battery and all-wheel drive, created by the two motors on either end of the car.

Driving the I-Pace

Extensive test drives are yet to be had by many critics, but from a first glimpse, the I-Pace is described as having “direct” steering, great turning ability and plenty of grip. Jaguar has incorporated a regenerative braking system that allows the electric motor to act as a generator before the friction brakes take action – this is optional though if you prefer to brake the traditional way.

The Jaguar all-electric I-Pace has been described as an “evolution”. Find out more about what this new model has to offer.

Jaguar I-Pace reviews

Jaguar fans have been in anticipation of this new model and from what the critics are saying, it’s easy to see why. Although electric cars have been around for a while now, Auto Express has described the I-Pace as “an evolution of the combustion-engined creations that have served us all so well over the years.” The Jaguar team themselves have expressed their enthusiasm about their newest model. The design director, Ian Callum, said, “it’s probably the most exciting project that I’ve been responsible for in terms of design, and I think the team as well.”
