A new survey reveals that driverless cars will give us the time to learn new skills. The OnePoll survey, conducted by webuyanycar.com, asked 2000 UK motorists who currently drive to and from work what they would do during a commute in a fully autonomous car.
The results revealed that 16% of respondents would learn a new language with the time they save commuting in a fully autonomous car, and 1 in 10 would learn a new hobby such as painting, knitting, or learning an instrument.
When looking at the results by region, respondents in London are the most likely to use their time in driverless cars to learn new skills. 13% of respondents in London would learn a new language during a commute in a driverless car, and 1 in 10 respondents in London would use this time to learn a new hobby.
When breaking the responses down by age, the survey reveals that millennials are the most likely to learn new skills during a commute in a fully autonomous car. 1 in 10 respondents aged between 25 and 34 would learn a new language, and 9% of 18 to 24 year olds would spend that time learning a new hobby.
Richard Evans, the head of Technical Services at WBAC said “Our survey shows us that a large proportion of commuters want to use their time in driverless cars constructively by learning a new skill, from taking up a new hobby to learning a new language. We’ve calculated that driverless cars will provide motorists with an additional 220 hours of spare time per year. This will provide time poor commuters who want to start a new hobby or learn another language with the perfect opportunity to expand their skillset.”
