We couldn't help thinking… what would the Harry Potter characters be driving now?
Harry Potter:
Our hero. Our protagonist. Champion of He Who Must Not Be Named. Harry is a complicated character, with a complicated personality to match. He's fiercely loyal, adventurous, independent, bit of rule a breaker and above all is one hell of a moody teenager (have you read the Deathly Hallows? Jeez). But now he's nearly hitting the big 3-0, maybe he might have mellowed a bit, but still wants a car that harks back to his youth of chasing dementors around Hogwarts and dodging death at every corner.
That's why we think Harry would go for the 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata. It's sleek, it's sophisticated and reasonably powerful. What this car lacks in power compared to its former models, it makes up in being incredibly light due to its extensive use of aluminium. Being able to maneuver into any twist and turn that a road presents you will come in handy for Harry when you're running late for a meeting at the Auror Department.
Ginny Potter nee Weasley:
One of the most beloved romantic stories of the Harry Potter series (after Ron and Hermione of course), is Harry and Ginny. Ginny is a fiery, outspoken character who isn't afraid to stand her ground – let's face it you would have to be growing up with six Weasley brothers! Like Harry, she is ambitious and independent and won't let anything stand in the way of her dreams. After leaving Hogwarts, Ginny's drive was still there and she went on to play professional Quidditch as a chaser for the Holyhead Harpies.
Overtime, Ginny put the brakes on and left the Holyhead's to have her family and become Senior Quidditch Reporter for the Daily Prophet. As a working mum with three kids in tow (James Sirius, Albus Severus and Lily Luna) Ginny needs a car that's robust, reliable but still has a bit of a kick. That's why we think the best car for Ginny will be the upcoming Jaguar E-Pace with the company describing it as the 'family sports car”.
Hermione Weasley nee Granger:
One of the smartest witches to ever enter Hogwarts, Hermione's intelligence is certainly a force to be reckoned with. If it wasn't for Hermione, our favourite trio would have probably starved to death or have been eaten by badgers in the Deathly Hallows. She had the foresight to take along a bag with an undetectable extension charm – think Mary Poppins on a MUCH bigger scale – which had everything they needed in it from clothes, tents and healing supplies.
Even after Hogwarts, our favourite brain box went on to conquer the wizarding world with her brain. First moving to the Control of Magical Creatures to rally for rights of house elves and then onto the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, it's clear that Hermione needs a motor as smart as her noggin. That's why Hermione needs the Mercedes S-Class. Not only is it powerful going from 0-60 in 5.4 seconds, it's also powerfully intelligent. This car has night vision, it can park itself with over 26 radar senses and it can even prevent accidents with the S-Class's Pre Safe Plus system which tightes seat belts and locks on the brakes to reduce your risk of injury.
Rubeus Hagrid:
Probably the most generous and ginormous groundskeeper in fiction, Hagrid has a heart of gold and is one of the most popular characters in the books. Yes, he's been in his fair share of scrapes – from being expelled from Hogwarts for keeping a giant spider as a pet to a brief stint in Azkaban – but Hagrid is loyal to Harry until the bitter end and that's why we love him.
J.K. Rowling doesn't share much information on what Hagrid gets up to after the seventh book, all we really know is that he is still at Hogwarts tending the ground and keeping the beasties at bay in the Forbidden Forest. So what car would Hagrid drive? Not only does he need a car big enough for himself and Fang to drool over the back seat, he needs a powerful, fast and BIG offroader to navigate round the castle grounds. There's only one choice… the Chevrolet Silverado Bigfoot Show Stopper. This truck is a monster and is the only set of wheels we can see Hagrid driving.
So there we have it. But we want to know what you think? Which car would your favourite character drive? Leave us a comment below.
