Hilux stands strong at the heart of the eruption |
Whilst the eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano brought chaos to the skies of the continent grounding every plane in Europe, there was one vehicle that stood strong on the very brink of the eruption: the Toyota Hilux. The Hilux was the vehicle of choice for volcanologists racing to the summit to set up monitoring equipment just hours before this long dormant mountain blew its top. The familiar looking Hilux was prepared to the same extreme environment specification as those used by Top Gear in their historic polar expedition across the Arctic to the North Pole by Arctic Trucks. Toyota is once again lauding praise on its indestructible Hilux for having the measure of every challenge in its path as it made its way through the treacherous terrain towards the volcano’s fiery heart. |

Soaring petrol prices topped election concerns |
![]() |
With petrol prices at a record high it’s no surprise that motorists are eager to see the new Con-Lib Government intervene. In the run up to election, the Tories promised to throw motorists a lifeline with a ‘fuel stabiliser’ which would cut duty when prices are high and raise it again when prices fall, whilst the Lib Dems pledged support to rural communities with a rural fuel discount. It will be interesting to see if these plans follow through in the coming weeks. |

Spending £88k on a car isn’t totally out of the realms of reality, but for that money you’d at least expect to be able to drive it right? Award-winning Swiss artist Dante had other ideas when he set to work on crafting the Aston Martin DB5 to add to his series of iconic car sculptures. Using the classic model as a basis, Dante created a limited run of just 10 quarter scale sculptures. The sculptures are finished in 24 carat gold, parked atop a polished, piano black plinth and come complete with their own lighting system. |

Battle of the Budget Brands |
Current budget brands Kia and Hyundai will no longer be leaders of the pack when it comes to being Britain’s cheapest car as budget brands from overseas race to get their models into the UK. Dacia from Romania, Lada from Russia, Tata from India and Great Wall from China will be a welcome sight for our wallets as they hit our showrooms in the next couple of years. Renault-owned Dacia’s concept is simple – it builds basic cars giving customers the greatest possible space for the smallest possible price and with models coming in at a very fair £5,000 all that remains to be seen is whether the model will prove too basic for UK tastes? After 13 years in hiding, the once much ridiculed Lada is making its way back to the UK, but with the expertise and financial backing of Renault, will the last laugh belong to Lada? |
