webuyanycar.com’s new ads prove a hit with Dave fans |
![]() |
Dave fans cannot fail to have seen the new webuyanycar.com ads sidling up to archived Top Gear episodes. After sifting through Twitter and Facebook suggestions for what music genre our new ads should take, we shortlisted gospel, pop, country and western, rock and R&B and set out to Moor Park Golf Club in Rickmansworth with the trusty webuyanycar.com camera crew. The new range of adverts now airing on Dave showcase various singing stars and their cars, accentuating the fact that webuyanycar.com really does buy ANY car. By using our famous strap line in an amusing fashion in each of the 10 second ads, we hope we have settled in well at the ‘home of witty banter’. Whatever’s next? Eurovision?! |

Polo gets GTI stamp of approval |
![]() |
After two half hearted attempts to add some Golf GTI cool to the Polo, Volkswagen are hoping its third time lucky as they launch the Polo GTI. Volkswagen believe they’ve got it right this time and the Polo GTI’s vital stats are certainly not to be sniffed at. Armed with a turbocharged and supercharged 177bhp 1.4 litre-engine, the revamped Polo hits 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds and tops out at 142mph. Whilst it drives, parks and handles well, critics have been less than impressed with its cosmetics; the general consensus being that it looks no different to its’ Golf counterpart after a few weeks at Weight Watchers. The Polo GTI hits the shelves in August 2010 but with a price tag in excess of £18k, will the price be a sticking point for even the most dedicated of hatch fans? |

Glass shattering ad is the perfect pitch for the LFA |
Lexus’ first foray into the glamorous world of supercars has been a fantastic success with all 500 of its 202mph LFAs racing out of showrooms. Showing just how deep their ‘pursuit of perfection’ runs, Lexus engineers enlisted the help of Yamaha to fine tune the car’s three-pipe exhaust to the exact pitch of a champagne flute. And the LFA’s unique exhaust note is illustrated beautifully in its new advert, which showcases just how capable Toyota’s luxury division is. The staggering 4.8 litre V10 engine roars as the rear wheels spin on the dyno. As the speedometer clicks past 170 mph, the glass starts to quiver, eventually shattering in gorgeous slow motion. For those of you who fancy putting the LFA to the shatter test and have £333,000 in the piggy bank, Lexus have revealed that the LFA will be back in production from October. |

Download to upgrade: The future in car advancements |
![]() |
Whilst Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden praised Twist and Pulse for giving us a glimpse into the future of ‘street-omedy’, Audi have done the same for the future of in-car technology features. Audi revealed that once you have driven your new purchase proudly out of the showroom, you’ll be able to upgrade your car by downloading feature enhancing apps. Downloadable applications will allow you to activate already inbuilt extras to your car with the touch of a button. Heated seats and onboard technology that recognises when your car needs a service and books itself into your local dealership are just a few of the revolutionary apps that Audi have in store. And it doesn’t stop there, the Audis of the future will have the ability to learn your routine journeys and automatically suggest the best route to take. Inbuilt wifi will be a must for all those travelling salesmen among you. |

Smokin’ Bugatti |
Ever wondered how many cigarette packets would make a Bugatti Veyron? No, I didn’t think so! But just in case it ever crops up on a pub quiz, thanks to five undergraduate students at China’s Xi’an University you’ll have the answer! The group of students set about their task to build a low-speed, electric version of the world’s most expensive car entirely out of cigarette packets in aid of World Anti-Smoking Day. The project took the students eight months to complete as each of the 10,280 packets were meticulously hand placed one by one. Quite what message creating the world’s least environmentally friendly car out of smokers’ discarded cigarette packs is at first unclear but when the electric engine fires up and there is a distinct lack of smoke, we feel we’re almost there. Not quite sure webuyanycar.com’s promise to buy any car would extend this far though! |
