Ford is right on track with their special edition RS500

Ford is right on track with their special edition RS500

A new powerful limited edition Ford RS model called the RS500 is being launched as the ultimate performance Ford. This special edition comes with a muscular 2.5 litre engine, achieves 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds and tops out at 163mph. Drivers worked in shifts to put the RS500 through its paces at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife, completing 500 non-stop laps of the track; the equivalent of 10 consecutive 24-hour races. The RS500's power is matched by an equally dramatic appearance with a unique matt black foil paint finish, matching alloys, small flashes of colour on the body and a vivid red interior colour scheme.

Here's the sting in the tail – production is strictly limited to 500! And Ford aren't letting the lucky owners forget how privileged they are, with each RS500 being branded with a metal plaque on the centre console, hand-engraved with an ID number from 001-500.

Gotcha! Carbon unveils the newest weapon in the fight against crime.

As Ford announce the retirement of the Crown Victoria, the car currently owning 70% of the USA police car market, Carbon has quickly stepped forward in the fight against crime with the world's first purpose-built police car, the E7.

Beneath an aggressive bodywork that withstands a 75 mph impact lurks the latest in hi-tech law enforcement kit and technology sure to keep the crankiest of cops content. ‘Suicide' style rear doors and centre sprouting rear seatbelts allow officers better control of its back seat residents who sheepishly rest their behinds on what can best be described as a vandal proof park bench plank. The 3.0 litre turbo¬diesel BMW engine propels the E7 from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a 155mph top speed.

American motorists should expect the Carbon cruisers to appear in their rear view mirrors by 2014!

Pagani test drive puts Aviva in a spin

Pagani test drive puts Aviva in a spin

Aviva are set to pay out a record insurance claim of £300,000 after a Pagani Zonda S spun out of control on a narrow country road, hitting a telephone pole and crashing through a fence. The accident occurred on a test drive near Aberdeen with the test driver, not the owner making the claim.

After deciding that the car was repairable, Aviva made arrangements for the car to be shipped to Modena in Italy, the home of Pagani. The accident took place last September with repairs set to be completed in May. An Aviva spokesperson branded the claim as “out of the ordinary for an insurer”.

Not quite a Darling Budget for motorists

Following this year's Budget, Alistair Darling merely delaying the pain at the pumps by staggering the fuel increase. With petrol prices soaring, motorists were expecting to pay an instant increase of 2.76p, however increases are now going to be staggered with an initial 1p rise, a second 1p rise coming into force on October 1st and the last tranche taking effect on January 1st.

Adrian Tink, the RAC's motoring strategist claims that the staggering effect is doing “nothing to reverse the trend of rising petrol prices” however by staggering the increases the British industry could save £150 million in the short term and struggling companies will be allowed a bit of breathing space.

However, there was some good news for motorists. Following the coldest winter in 30 years, the Government have introduced a fund for improving our roads which will see a combined £385 million devoted to repairs and improvements.

‘Swappage'; the new Scrappage

‘Swappage'; the new Scrappage

In an attempt to maintain sales after the end of the scrappage scheme, car manufacturers have introduced ‘swappage' schemes! About 400,000 new cars rolled out of car showrooms since the scrappage scheme began in May of last year, boosting new car sales by 30%. The new ‘swappage' scheme is a programme of price cuts by manufacturers offering similar financial incentives to buy a new car.

Manufacturers such as Nissan, Mazda, Kia, Peugeot and Toyota are all continuing to offer cash for old bangers. Nissan hopes that by extending their scheme, they can continue to support the British economy and are guaranteeing a £2,000 trade in on British-built Nissan cars over seven years old and will run from April 1st to June 30th. Nissan have the perfect advertising vehicle for their scheme; a 36ft car made from scrapped vehicles!

Used car dealer Carcraft is also offering motorists a minimum £2,000 part exchange on any car against a selected range in the showroom.
