Used car values fall as owners struggle to sell

Used car dealers reluctant to take stock with auctions slowing

We're used to seeing the value of cars fall in the run up to Christmas and this year is no exception.  Significantly reduced demand for stock from used car dealers and the impact of the scrappage scheme has left private sellers in the cold, struggling to sell their motor.

Those looking to part-exchange their car for something newer are finding dealers offering poor valuations as they batten down the hatches for the pre-Christmas lull in trade when shoppers turn their attention to more seasonal purchases.  Even private sellers in the classifieds and online auctions are seeing their prices tumble as the number of buyers has dwindled.

At webuyanycar.com, you can be assured of a hassle-free sale whatever the time of year.  Hundreds of canny consumers are selling their car to webuyanycar.com now to raise cash for those special Christmas purchases and taking advantage of the tail-end of an unprecendented year of used car price increases.  Be warned - the word in the motor trade is that used car prices are past their peak and are widely expected to keep falling reinforcing the fact that it is much better to sell now than wait until later.

Road test BMW Z4 sDrive35i Auto

Need a little something special to cast aside the Winter blues and put a smile on your face?  You'd be hard-pressed to buy better than the new BMW Z4 sDrive35i, which produces 306bhp from a three litre twin-turbo petrol engine.  The 35i has earned its stripes with a free-revving engine that sounds great and delivers bags of smile-inducing acceleration coupled with the legendary handling you'd expect from the ultimate driving machine.  The Z4's chassis and drive train cope easily with the 306bhp engine and it handles like a dream through the bends.

The standard Z4 gearbox is a six speed manual with an automatic option, but don't be fooled into thinking this is an executive runabout.  In the case of the 23i and 30i it's a conventional automatic box but the 35i gets a dreamy seven speed dual-clutch unit which improves both the performance and fuel economy.

There are a range of powerplants available in the new Z4 which include the 258bhp 3.0 litre naturally aspirated sDrive30i and the 204bhp 2.5 litre unit paired with the sDrive23i.  Our pick of the crop in the webuyanycar.com office is the sDrive35i Auto, provided of course you have a spare £38,875 jangling around in loose change!

Button's Veyron for sale - yours for just £899,995

Born again Esprit gets V10 makeover

After clinching the Formula 1 World Championship a few weeks ago, Jenson Button is seeking to capitalise on the limelight by selling his beloved black Bugatti Veyron for the bargain price of £899,995.  This stunning example has just 1,500 miles on the clock and is powered by an awesome eight litre 16 cylinder engine with four turbochargers.

Advertised for sale on a well-known motoring classifieds site, it comes "complete with all usual refinements for a £1,000,000 supercar" and has had "2 owners, the second being a current Formula 1 driver which will be authenticated. In absolutely stunning condition."

The car was previously advertised for sale in August but attracted little interest.  It's hoped that Button's achievement on the grid over the last two races of the season will lure potential buyers.  Priced 'on the button' at £899,995 or nearest offer, deep pockets (or a big win on the lottery) will be required to take up Jenson's offer.  We've checked our records and Jenson hasn't yet valued the car with webuyanycar.com we're waiting on his call!

World's cheapest car on fire - literally!

The World's cheapest car, the Tata Nano is under fire in India as reports emerge of some models literally bursting into flames recently due to suspected electrical problems.  Three fires have been reported spontaneously occurring in the steering columns of Nanos in India, where 7,500 vehicles have been delivered since July.

Tata announced on 26th October that they will inspect all new cars and those already delivered to customers, conveniently avoiding the dreaded "recall" word.  The Indian auto-maker blamed the problem on a short circuit in the switch that controls the headlights, windshield wipers and  dashboard indicators.

The tiny Nano is labeled "The People's Car" because of its groundbreaking price of just 115,000 Rupees (£1,500).  The car has already had 200,000 pre-orders in India and changed the way the World looks at low cost automobiles.  Tata plans to sell 100,000 Nanos in India in 2010 and export a higher spec Europe in 2011 subject to NCAP safety testing.

Five million UK motorists 'afraid of the dark'

Over five million UK motorists are fearful of driving in the dark, according to a new survey by motor insurer Saga.  Driving at night is a worry for a 20% of over 50s according to the research with a quarter of those surveyed admitting they fear for their safety.

A fifth of all motorists in the UK apparently get behind the wheel less often in Winter to avoid driving in the dark.  This figure rises to almost a third of drivers over the age of 70.  Andrew Goodsell, Saga Group Chief Executive said, "Our research shows the over-50s use their experience to adapt their driving to reflect conditions on the road and as you would expect have fewer accidents than other age groups."

Children are also being urged to wear reflective clothing to promote Winter safety with the THINK! campaign using the catchphrase "Be Bright, Be Seen".
