Mad, bad and dangerous to know - introducing the new Focus RS

Okay the only thing green about the Ford RS Focus might be the paint job, but when a car is this much fun, who cares?  Boasting 300bhp, Ford's new flying machine will cover 0-60 in a breath-taking 5.9 seconds.  Thanks to its rally pedigree, it will drive many a super car round the twist on winding roads as it grips the tarmac like a terrier on a bone.  On the outside, it breaks the Focus mould with a bad-boy spoiler, big arches and cavernous twin exhausts, hinting at the raw power that lurks within.  This car will truly turn heads (and hearts)!

The RS is Ford's fastest mainstream production car to date and can be yours for just £24,999.  Read more on this guaranteed modern classic here.

How much road tax will you pay from April?

To stay green and keep the road tax on your car lean, we've pulled together information on the new 13 band vehicle excise duty charges.  These kick in next month, so if you're driving an old 4x4 and your tax is due, chances are the tax bill will rise to over £400 a year for the privilege.  If this tips the balance on your finances - sell your car to webuyanycar.com and pick up a more economical model.  You could save a small fortune and still get a great price on your old car.

CO2 emissions are measured in grams per kilometer (g/km) - literally how many grams of carbon dioxide are produced per kilometer driven on average.  You can easily reduce emissions by changing your driving style - Learn more here.

Time for something new?  Six top tips on choosing a new 09 plate car

  1. Remember, petrol cars emitting less than 100g/km of C02 pay no vehicle excise duty (road tax) whereas emissions over 226g/km carry a massive £400 tax levy.
  2. Over the last twelve months, high emission cars have been depreciating rapidly due to their high tax band so to protect your car's future value, choose carefully.
  3. Buying on credit? Make sure you check with a credit reporting agency to see if their information is up to date as an error could add £1,000s to your finance. Get an Experian credit report free by following this link.
  4. Dealerships are crying out for business so try going online for the best discounts!
  5. Rather than part-exchanging your current car, you could get much better value by selling it.  Check your old car's value at webuyanycar.com before accepting a below par valuation from a used car dealer.
  6. Pre-registered models are usually significantly cheaper than a factory order - ask your dealer about the models they already have in stock before specifying new.

Fiat first for low CO2 emissions

Want to trade in for a greener model

For car buyers wanting to reduce their road tax as well as their impact on the environment - Fiat ticks all the boxes.  Voted the manufacturer with the lowest CO2 emissions in Europe once again, Fiat leads the way with an average 133.7g/km - a reduction of 3.6g/km on 2007's score.  Other manufacturers proving that green is good include Citroen, Toyota, Ford, VW and, perhaps surprisingly, BMW whose EfficientDynamics programme of fuel saving technology such as stop start engines, reduced drag tyres and aerodynamic body styling has resulted in a big drop in emissions.
