UK car scrap scheme set to be announced in Wednesday's budget

In line with many other European countries including Germany and France - the UK Government is considering a car scrappage incentive scheme.  Motorists could receive a discount of up to £2,000 against a brand new or nearly new car in return for scrapping their old gas guzzler in favour of a greener model.  The details so far are sketchy but it looks like you'll have to scrap a car over nine years old and buy a model with low CO2 output, so this will not make climbing into a shiny new sporty model any easier!

Whilst this scheme could be good news for the environment, it's no use unless you have a few thousand already set aside for a new car.  What's more, if your car is worth £1,500, it's likely you'd only get a £500 discount.  Alternatively, you could always get a competitive valuation on your current car from webuyanycar.com and haggle a great discount yourself.

The world's cheapest car clocks in at just £1,250!

Tata Nano

Aiming to do what the Mini did for countless motorists in 60's Britain, the Tata Nano is about to bring the joys of motoring to millions in India.  At 10,000 Rupees, about £1,250 - it's officially the world's cheapest car.  Compact but not cramped, the manufacturers claim a top speed of 65mph and about 50 miles to the gallon.

The basic version is very basic indeed with no radio or passenger-side mirror and only one windscreen wiper.  With just this level of kit, Indian consumers are clammering to sign up for the Nano and are having to take part in a lottery to win the right to buy one!

Expect a better-equipped European version in 2011.

Used car prices bouncing back - is yours worth more?

According to figures released from British Car Auctions, Europe's leading vehicle remarketing company, February's average used car values were up by £435 against January.  Even some trade price guides have been caught on the hop as the market has bounced back quicker than many expected.

In contrast, part-exchange values have remained fairly static so it's worth checking that the price the dealer is offering is in line with the market - check your car's value against webuyanycar.com first!  Price rises have been put down to a combination of high demand from bargain hunters and sparse stock because of low new car sales.
